"So the Poodle is now trying to organise a conference..."
"He thinks that will contribute to peace in the Middle East but sometime I wonder about him."
"What?"
"I mean Bush is extremely sanguine about what he does. He actually believes in all this neo-conservative stuff and genuinely accepts the centrality of his faith and how the Jewish-Evangelical nexus is the way forward for the world. But Poodle is a bit brighter and I have often wondered how he sleeps at night after he sanctions the death of British soldiers as well as 'Iraqi collateral damage' in the name of Bush."
"You forget that he is first and foremost a politician."
"Indeed."
"Anyway I think Bush directed Sharon to be nice to Blair and the support came out rather stupidly in their joint press conference. Poodle talked of the conference, Sharon said great idea but Israel wont participate, so Poodle will have a bunch of Arabs arguing about the road map which Sharon has since rather cleverly replaced with an extremely limited disengagement plan..."
"Did you hear the British journalist asking Sharon if this was actually what he had done and Sharon answered no it was not and then laid conditions that the Palestinians couldn't possibly meet specially as he continues to actively engage in the Palestinian areas, and then Poodle re-stated that Sharon had categorically said no the disengagement was not a replacement for the roadmap."
"It's not as if the roadmap favours the Palestinians."
"Hell, no but either Poodle is naïve for thinking that the one sided conference with the strongman, Israel, not participating, will achieve anything..."
"Speaking of strongmen I tell you nothing remains the same. Take our strongmen for instance. I mean Ayub and Zia were strongmen and nothing of their legacy remained other than the re-invoking of some of their constitutional amendments to reinstall another strongman."
"Precisely but they don't leave a good legacy for the history books behind and it is systems which must be put in place..."
"Musharraf is trying to change the system."
"In a manner similar to what was done by the previous strongmen. And I don't think his NSC has quite taken hold and will be the first casualty after him."
"If only he would leave behind the old and tried democratic credentials as his legacy we might move forward and..."
"Not with the current batch of Lotas. One of them even went so far as to say foreign investors want him to wear his uniform."
"Thank God for small mercies. I mean he could even have said that Musharraf was the one chosen by Allah to lead us and..."
"Somehow unfortunately that reminds me of Mian Sahib too."
"It does come full circle in this country doesn't it?"
